Cube of Truth in Vienna

What it is

The Cube of Truth is the street action format of Anonymous for the Voiceless (AV). The cube team stands masked, silent and as still as possible in formation. They hold screens or AV signs. The outreach team talks to people who stop and watch the footage.

AV describes the Cube as a peaceful street action with two teams: cube and outreach. Both roles are part of the same action and are coordinated on site by organizers.

Roles

• Cube team: stands still, stays in formation and does not speak with passers-by.
• Outreach team: speaks with people who show clear interest in the footage.
• Organizers: brief the group and coordinate roles, materials and safety.

If you are in the Cube and need something, raise your hand. An organizer or outreacher will come to you.

Clothing and materials

• Black clothing.
• No visible brands or logos.
• Current AV merch or clothing with the word "vegan" is ok if it fits the local AV guidance.
• Masks, signs and closing cards are usually provided by the organizing team.
• If you bring your own device for footage, it should be charged and prepared.

Non-official additional resource

Raffaela Rab explains the setup, roles, clothing and AV conversation flowchart in a German-language video. The video is not an official AV resource and Raffaela no longer does AV, but it is still a useful practical introduction.

For first-timers

If you are new, arrive on time for the briefing. Organizers will explain on site whether you will stand in the Cube, hold a sign or screen, or shadow first.
