NEON Protest in Vienna

What it is

NEON stands for No Exploitation Of Non-Humans. The action is an abolitionist format under the umbrella of RADICAL! LOUD! VEGAN!. Its goal is the complete abolition of animal exploitation, including for food, clothing, animal testing, entertainment and breeding. You can simply join and stand loudly and vegan for the animals together with the group.

Roles

• Organizer: on-site contact person, coordinates flow and safety.
• Sign holders: make the animals visible with large signs (wearing a mask or black face covering).
• Outreach: hold direct conversations with the public and clarify veganism.
• Speakers: deliver brief, animal-centered speeches.
• Media/Film: document the protest for social media reach.
• DJ/Music: provide the musical accompaniment.

Procedure

1. Before the protest: arrive on time, receive materials for your role.
2. Briefing: the organizer explains the flow, roles and messaging.
3. Active protest: take breaks at the edges as needed.
4. Outro & photos: a group photo and video conclude the action.
5. Debriefing: brief feedback, materials are collected.

Clothing and materials

• Black clothing; red accents are allowed.
• Vegan slogans only if they are clearly abolitionist vegan.
• No environmental, health or party-political messaging.
• Sign holders wear a mask or black face covering.
• Bring as little extra baggage as possible.
• Signs, sound, flyers and other materials are coordinated by the local unit.

Essential rules

• Do not bring other animals – the protest is loud, stressful and dangerous for them.
• No alcohol or drugs, no disruptive behavior.
• Follow the organizer's instructions during incidents.

For first-timers

Holding a sign, filming conversations or helping with setup are good first roles; microphone and outreach only when it fits. It is best to contact the local organizer or the NEON Instagram account in advance so there are enough signs and materials.
