Animal Rights Lectures 2026 with DDr. Martin Balluch

SAVE THE DATE We warmly invite you to the ANIMAL RIGHTS LECTURES in autumn 2026! In five lectures, VGT chairperson DDr. Martin Balluch will speak about the philosophical basis of the animal rights movement, which was discussed very intensely in the 1980s and 1990s, and is currently receiving less attention. That these topics are far from settled will become clear at our ANIMAL RIGHTS LECTURES - after a one-hour lecture, there will be a short break to recharge before the discussion that follows. Come along and join the discussion! Register at: events@vgt.at We look forward to seeing you! 4th lecture: Civilizational bias and wild animal suffering: For most people in civilization, i.e. technological mass society, it seems obvious that life in civilization is preferable to any life outside it in the wild. With medical care, protected by the police, on a soft sofa behind triple glazing, food in the fridge. The poor animals out there have to freeze, starve, and are constantly in fear. But wait! That is the perspective of beings who have been socialized in this way. How do people who were socialized in the wild see it? And how do wild animals see it?
