VGT film evening | Among Pigs - The undercover operation I never wanted again

Film screening followed by a discussion with protagonist Samara Eckardt and director Carmen Hammerschmidt! What happens when you look behind the scenes of a supposedly model operation and suddenly realize that reality looks very different from the image presented to the outside world? For “Under Pigs,” animal rights activist Samara Eckardt goes undercover once again in a German pig breeding facility. It is an assignment she never actually wanted to do again after her first undercover investigation, which accompanied her for years. Unrecognized, she works in a facility that has been awarded the animal welfare label and whose operator is active in the German Farmers’ Association. This is about more than just what the footage shows. The film also tells the story of the person behind the camera: the decision to once again enter a situation that pushes her to her emotional and psychological limits — driven by the conviction that the truth is the Achilles’ heel of the animal industry. “Under Pigs” shows what can happen behind closed doors when animal husbandry is presented to the outside world as exemplary. The film asks a simple but uncomfortable question: How much of what happens in German barns would we accept if we could see it with our own eyes? Admission: 6:45 p.m., film starts: 7:00 p.m. Discussion afterward: approx. 8:50 p.m. Registration: Admission is free. Please register by 17/11 at events@vgt.at so we know how many people need a seat.
